The streets are empty The pavement’s grey But I don’t mind no, I don’t mind The people are fleeing, They’re going home But, I don’t mind no, I don’t mind The time is come dear To spread your wings To do a tapdance between the lampposts The time is come now To breathe a sigh The cars went missing I feel alive It’s christmas in Berlin The train is coming in The snow is falling down It’s quiet all around x 3 Because it’s empty Empty Berlin They call it christmas Feels good within A teary goodbye A longing hug Enjoy your hometown Enjoy the love i don’t regret I never have My secret christmas inside my Empty spacious Berlin It’s christmas in Berlin The train is coming in The snow is falling down It’s quiet all around x 3 (Lieber Schnee) (Lieber Schnee) I feel it, It’s coming I feel the christmas coming

about

Justine Electra wrote the songs herself, and performed and produced them together with André Abshagen (PET, Dauerfisch) and Robert Kretzschmar (Kat Frankie, Masha Qrella).

The Grand Lady of the German Indie-Pop and Literary scene, Christiane Rösinger (Britta, Ja! Panik, Staatsakt) features on the track "Christmas is the Time", and is also, like Justine Electra, a long-standing member of the Spending-Christmas-in-Berlin gang.

One would be hard-pressed to find a European Metropolis undergoing as much change as Berlin has in the last few years, however one thing will never change - that Christmas time invariably spells the undoing of the city. Around half of the city's occupants depart in droves, the streets empty out, the traffic subsides, and suddenly one can find a parking spot without pulling one's hair out. The city in return offers a lustrous and meditative sheen which can be very inspiring for local creative-types. On Christmas eve the bars and clubs offer refuge, and thanks to the sparse choice of those left behind, the remaining residents make do and as a result new friendships and unlikely alliances are formed.

Justine Electra's "Christmas in Berlin" was written about exactly this specific Berliner-Christmas, one that is felt especially by the more than 40,000 english-speaking migrants living here, and is the Radio Single of her three song Christmas EP.
With the final song on the EP, Der Weihnachtsmann (that's German for "Santa Claus") Justine Electra delivers a mysterious offering that lays somewhere between a Marlene Dietrich chanson and a Tim Burton film-soundtrack.

about

Justine Electra Berlin, Germany

I first moved here in 1998 after I finished my music bachelor at SCU in Oz. I studied piano, voice, composition, film music, performance, musicianship and audio skills.
I am currently planning a new album with my lovely label, Neun Volt Records. I played concerts at the Swiss "Lethargy", Nation of Gondwana, SO36 and Bi Nuu in summer. I am booking myself and hope to play as many gigs as possible.
